The Wedding on the sun soaked island of Ios where the Greek gods once walked

I've just returned from an amazing trip to Ios, a small island in between Naxos and Santorini in the Aegean Sea.

I was contacted by Caitlin and Patrick at the start of this year as they'd seen my work online. Pretty amazing as they live in Australia and were planning a destination wedding the other side of the world.

The couple got engaged on Santorini a couple of years ago and they decided to get married on Ios and have 34 close family and friends travel over with them for a holiday with the wedding being the standout event of the week. And what a wedding it was.

Getting to Ios isn't the easiest as there is no direct flight to the island. The easiest way is fly in to Santorini airport and then get a boat across. The week before the wedding the Thomas Cook crisis was unfolding and I'm so pleased that on the Friday before the company went out of business I took a risk and booked another flight in case.

I spent one night in Santorini where I filmed the timelapse sunrise shots for the video before heading onto Ios for a couple of nights where I spent two full days shooting. The first day was spent filming all of the B roll footage. (B-roll is a term inserted into the video as cutaways to help tell the story). The second day on the island was the wedding itself where I filmed the venue setup in the morning, before going to the hotel where the future Clark's were staying as they got ready for their ceremony.

Talking about the ceremony, what an idyllic setting it was by the side of the sea on the beach. It was such a lovely personal service as the celebrant Thomas really gave some outstanding words before Caitlin and Patrick said their vows.

The wedding styling was done by MBW Events who brought in such an amazing floral display and decor from Athens.

Caitlin and Patrick chose the hillside setting of the Ios Club to celebrate their party where we had speeches, first shots (instead of first dance), some amazing Greek dancing and plate smashing.

Overall it was an amazing experience and honour to travel there to film something quite unique for the couple.

If you are getting married either in the UK or at an overseas destination please contact me as I'd love to hear about your plans.
